Paintings That Explore the Depths

Welcome to my paintings portfolio, a collection that explores the complexities of human experience through vibrant colors, bold textures, and symbolic narratives. Each piece captures moments of personal transformation and universal themes we’re destined to experience.

Influenced by Carl Jung’s theories of archetypes and the collective unconscious, I use art as a means of navigating and integrating the shadow aspects of our personalities. These paintings invite viewers to connect with their inner selves and reflect on the intricate dance between light and shadow.

A Closer Look at Some Paintings

The works in this collection are not merely images on canvas; they are visual stories infused with emotion and intention. “Disturbed Woman“, for example, began as a self-portrait and quickly transformed into an intense exploration of anger and pain. The raw, aggressive brushstrokes and contrasting colors reveal the turmoil I felt as I helplessly watched my son’s battle against addiction. This painting, like many others, is a powerful reminder of how art can serve as a therapeutic outlet for processing difficult emotions and experiences.

Distracted” offers a different kind of reflection, focusing on the theme of stillness and the passage of time. Inspired by a simple photograph of my husband’s legs, this piece evolved into a symbol of waiting and surrender. The crossed legs resemble the reversed “Hanged Man” tarot card, indicating a period of stasis and acceptance. The painting became a metaphor for my own struggle with feeling stuck and needing to find peace in the pause.

Under the Vest” is a tribute to the hidden sacrifices made by those who serve in law enforcement. The piece uses rich symbolism—blue for the uniform, red for the bloodshed, and silver leaf for the badge—to honor the courage and humanity behind the uniform. This painting encapsulates the tension between duty and personal risk, portraying the complexities of the lives lived behind the shield.

Remembering 1812” draws on my background as a former soldier and the haunting stories of war I’ve encountered. It captures the chaos and horror of conflict, juxtaposing bright, chaotic skies with dark, shadowy figures. This piece reflects not only historical events but also the personal impact of those stories on my own life. The painting is a visceral representation of the fog of war, where the boundaries between past and present, personal and collective experience, blur.

The Creative Process: From Concept to Canvas

Creating each painting is an intuitive and meditative process, guided by a deep connection to the subconscious. I begin with a simple idea or emotion, often inspired by personal experiences or historical events. From there, I experiment with different mediums, including acrylics, oils, and mixed media, allowing the piece to evolve organically. The process is both deliberate and spontaneous, mirroring the unpredictable nature of our inner worlds.

Color plays a crucial role in my work. It is not just a visual element but a language of emotion. I use bold contrasts and subtle gradients to convey the feelings behind each piece, whether it’s the fiery reds of “Disturbed Woman” or the calm blues and greens of “Distracted”. Texture adds another layer of meaning, inviting viewers to not only see but also feel the depth of each painting.

Themes of Healing and Self-Discovery

My paintings often explore themes of healing, transformation, and the tension between light and shadow. I believe that by embracing our darker, more difficult emotions, we can find a path to self-acceptance and growth. This philosophy is at the heart of my artistic vision and is reflected in each piece I create.

For example, “Disturbed Woman” is not just a portrayal of anger; it’s a testament to the power of acknowledging and expressing those feelings. By confronting my own rage and helplessness, I was able to transform those emotions into something tangible, something that could be seen and understood. Similarly, “Distracted” speaks to the importance of patience and acceptance during times of uncertainty. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the best we can do is to sit and wait for the storm to pass.

“Under the Vest” creeps into the theme of sacrifice and the often-unseen toll that certain roles take on individuals and their families. It’s a reminder of the humanity behind the badge, the people who, despite their courage, are not immune to fear and loss. And “Remembering 1812” serves as a poignant reflection on the scars left by war, not just on those who fought but also on the generations that follow.

An Invitation to Connect

Art is a universal language that transcends words, a bridge between the seen and the unseen. I hope that as you explore this collection, you find pieces that resonate with your own experiences and emotions. Whether you are drawn to bold energy or reflective stillness today, each painting offers an opportunity for connection and introspection.

This portfolio is more than just a display of my work; it’s a testament to the healing power of creativity and the transformative journey of self-discovery. These pieces have found their homes, but they continue to inspire my current and future work. If you feel a connection to what you see here and would like to explore work that is available now or a custom commission, I welcome the opportunity to create something that speaks to your own story.

Thank you for taking the time to visit and engage with my art. May these paintings inspire you to look within, to embrace your own shadows, and to find light in even the darkest places.
