You call it being realistic.
Maybe not getting your hopes up.
It is usually a woman who learned that wanting things out loud was expensive.

You reached the door of More and turned around. You can name what you want in the dark, alone, quietly. Out loud, in daylight, with someone watching, the wanting turns into a liability you have to defend.

Survival taught you to keep the ceiling low. It was good instruction at the time. The instruction expired and nobody told you.

## Three Readings to Start

**[What You Bind Into It: An Intention Doll for the Year Ahead](https://kelliejoart.com/intention-doll/)**

Naming what you want, then building an object that keeps naming it after your nerve fades. A hands-on method for wanting on purpose.

**[Your Creative Space Is a Tool](https://kelliejoart.com/creative-space-is-a-tool/)**

Wanting more starts with claiming physical room for it. How the space you work in either argues with you or backs you up, and what to change first.

**[The Accounting](https://kelliejoart.com/the-accounting/)**

Abundance arrives and the floorboards groan. The Queen, the Sage, the Caregiver, the Jester, and the Innocent gather to sort what came in and what it cost. Net worth is math. Self-worth is not.

## Try This

### One Accounting, Fifteen Minutes

Part 1

Take one sheet of paper and close the door.

On the first side, write: **What I am doing to survive.**

List everything that keeps your life from sliding sideways. The job that covers the bills. The routines that keep the floor steady. The people you manage. The details you monitor so nothing gets worse. This is the account survival has been keeping on your behalf. It may run longer than you expect.

Read the list back. Each item serves the same purpose: keep the damage contained, keep the day moving, keep the structure standing. Survival is good at maintenance. It rarely leaves much room for desire.

Turn the page over. Write: **What I would want if getting through the day were already handled.**

The condition matters. A direct question may bring you straight back to money, duty, and consequence. Ask it sideways instead. Imagine the bills are covered, the floor is solid, and nobody needs managing. What do you want when survival no longer gets the first word?

Write quickly. Do not edit. Do not calculate the cost.

Part 2

Open After You Finish Part 1

Now read the second side again and find the want you reduced while writing it. Maybe you added “someday.” Maybe you wrote “a little.” Maybe you chose the modest version because the full-sized truth looked greedy in your own handwriting.

Cross out the smaller version. Write the real one underneath.

That is the ceiling. The moment you made the want smaller, you found the limit you have been living beneath.

Say the full-sized want out loud once. Keep the door closed. Let the room stay empty. Use your normal voice. Speak it like a fact instead of a confession.

Your throat may tighten. Your body may brace. That is an old instruction trying to keep the ceiling where it has always been. Say the words anyway.

Then notice what happens. The room stays standing. No invoice appears. No one comes to punish you for wanting more. The cost was never in saying it. The cost was in keeping it small enough to pass inspection.

Before you put the paper down, write one more line beneath the full-sized want: **What is the first thing this would require that I do not have yet?**

Name only the first thing.

Keep both sides. Fold the page and place it somewhere you will find it again in three months.

The first side shows why the ceiling formed. The second shows what has been waiting above it.

## Tools Built for More Than Just Getting Through

### For the year of asking harder questions:

*[52 Weeks with the Dark: Indelicate Prompts from Your Shadow](https://kelliejoart.com/52-dark-journaling-prompts/)* gives you one prompt a week and no place to hide from it. Your Shadow already knows what you want. This is where she says it.

### For the want you keep talking yourself out of:

A [You-Do-You Voodoo™ doll](https://kelliejoart.com/you-do-you-voodoo-art-dolls-for-sale/) built around an abundance or ambition intention holds the wanting where you can see it. She does not negotiate it down. That is the point of her.

## FAQ

**What if I want more and lose what I already have?**

That fear is not irrational. Somewhere behind you is a time when wanting something out loud cost you, and your body filed the receipt. Worth checking what it actually filed. The wanting did not take those things from you. A person did, or a circumstance did. The accounting on this page asks for nothing you can lose: a closed door, one sheet of paper, one sentence said at normal volume.

**I cannot tell what I want anymore. Is something wrong with me?**

No. Survival compresses want down to need, because need is actionable and want is expensive. The wanting did not leave. It went quiet where it could not cost you anything. Start with envy. The last time you felt that hot flicker watching someone else have something, you were being handed information. Write that one down first and work backward from it.

**How is this different from manifestation?**

Manifestation says the wanting does the work. This does not. A folded page and a doll on your desk hold the want in the room where you cannot quietly downgrade it when your nerve fades. That is the entire mechanism. What moves anything is the first missing piece you named, and then the one after that. No summoning. But a want that stopped being deniable.
